TANGO ARGENTINO

Destinotango is an initiative created by a German-Argentinean couple:  Karin Emrich and Luis Carlos Blanc. Destinotango is based in Frankfurt, Germany, and has been working in the Rhein-Main area since October 2007.

We (Karin and Luis) have been dancing Argentinean Tango for over 10 years. We met dancing some five years back and, individually and together, both in Europe and Buenos Aires, have learnt from a range of internationally renowned Argentine teachers (including Carlos Gavito, Osvaldo Zotto und Lorena Ermocida, Leo Calvelli und Eugenia Usandivaras, Graciela González, Elina Roldán, Javier Rodríguez und Geraldine Rojas, Toto Faraldo, el Pibe Avellaneda). Tango has always been part of Luis’ life. Growing up in Argentina, and with tango musicians and dancers in the family, Tango was and is permanently present and inextricably linked with his earliest childhood memories. Karin’s initial love for Tango became all encompassing after she met Luis and thus got to know a whole new dimension of Tango through extended visits to Buenos Aires and long nights in the city’s many milongas. Motivated by our strong interest in the culture of Tango, we published a monthly bilingual Tango magazine (Desde el Alma) in 2005/2006 while living in Geneva, Switzerland, which dealt with Tango as a social and cultural phenomenon.

Our passion, and what we communicate in our classes, is „Tango de Salón“, as it is danced to this day in the traditional milongas of Buenos Aires: Tango as a social dance. Our goal is to disseminate the culture of Argentinean Tango in all its manifestations: through its dance, its music, its poetry and its art and, not least, through the place where we hear, feel and dance tango: the milonga. In our classes and the weekly milongas, we seek to create relaxed, joyful and convivial atmosphere, with respect for the traditions and roots of Tango and for everything that makes this special dance what it is. We work individually with each student to capitalize on their personal strengths and weaknesses, instead of applying a “one-fits-all” approach. Tango is not about copying what we see; it is about turning ourselves “inside-out”, about dancing who we are. There are as many Tango styles as people and we accompany our students on their journey to finding their „own“ Tango, while enjoying the, sometimes challenging, process of learning, self-discovery and personal growth. All our Tango-related activities are aimed at inspiring people to enjoy Tango as a social dance. But Tango is more than just a dance, it a cultural phenomenon, and we try to give our students, in addition to tango steps and technique, a glimpse of the world of tango as it continues to exist to this day in Buenos Aires, with its cultural particularities and its - sometimes seemingly incomprehensible - codes of conduct.
